Gasket in cylinder head cover for engine breather for all W124 diesel engines.
Behind the oil filler cap the engine breather is located in the cylinder head cover. The gasket between the hose and the cylinder head cover is mostly brittle due to the hot oil vapours and age and no longer keeps impervious. This is observably by ugly black oil traces around the ventilation connection.
We think: this is not necessary, with little effort (pull out the vent, replace the seal, reinsert the vent) oil losses here are reliably prevented and the engine remains clean.
