The front suspension arms are extremely robust in the 124 series. Nevertheless, after several 100,000 km and 30 years of running time, the massive rubber mountings as well as the steel sheet body of the suspension arm itself wear out. This is reflected in a spongy driving behavior, which the long-standing 124er-driver often notices very hardly because the driver is used to the steadily deteriorating driving behavior.
Therefore the driver will be even more surprised as soon as a new suspension arm has been mounted :)
