In pressure filtration systems usually powerful pumps are installed without pressure regulation. At high filtration resistances - for example filter cartridges which are clogged - damaging pressures build up quickly resulting in destroyed filter housings or filter elements.
Due to that it makes sense to use a tee with a pressure relief valve between the pump and the first filter element. The safety valve opens at a preset parameter (3 bar) and allows the liquid to run through an exit into the reservoir. Thereby the entire system include the pump is protected against high pressure and can be operated automatically.
By occasional operation of the rotating cap, the function of the safety valve can be checked.
