This reduced connector is often used at pumps or other components, that have 3/8 inch female threads as a standard, for assemble the wide variety of 1/4 inch fittings.
For screwed fastenings both for water and for fuel we recommend the thread seal (p-85175) or the thread sealing agent (p-97216).
