The viscose coupling is a temperature-controlled coupling between water pump and fan wheel. When the temperature rises, the coupling is activated.
Common defects are incorrect switching temperatures (does not switch off or on) as well as mechanical defects (worn out moutings).
The viscose coupling is vitally important for the cooling system as, if the fan blade do not rotate, the coupling is not working and the engine overheats.
